How to prepare baked chestnuts :

This is an easy method that I use to bake chestnuts in the oven.

Before cooking the chestnuts, wash them thoroughly.

Slice the chestnuts with a sharp knife one by one making a horizontal cut on the peel of about 3cm.

Warning, engraving chestnuts is important, otherwise they will burst during baking in the oven.

Immerse the chestnuts in cold water in a large bowl for at least 2 hours, in this way it will be easier to peel them once cooked.

Soaking chestnuts

After this time, dry the chestnuts well and take a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and put the chestnuts.

It is advisable to consume the freshly cooked hot chestnuts, even to peel them better!   Storage you can keep them cooked for at most 2 days, or you can slip and peel and store in the freezer for at most 6 months.

Once thawed, they can be consumed cold or heated in the oven.

Raw chestnuts can be stored in a basket without overlapping them even for 2 weeks, otherwise they can be frozen and cooked without defrosting.
